Woman wearing sapphire earrings and a sapphire cocktail ring looks upward into blue light

September is one of those perfect months. The weather is finally improving, the sun is shining and there are blossoms on the trees – spring has sprung! For those lucky spring babies, your birthstone is the ever classic, always stylish Sapphire. For those interested in a bit of history, in the Middle Ages this rare gem was thought to protect the wearer from envy and harm from others. The stone is also said to inspire loyalty, faithfulness and trust. While the best known colour of sapphires ranges from ocean blue tones to midnight navy blue, deep shades, it also comes  in a range of different colours, from vibrant pinks to champagne yellow - even green and orange.

While some may think the Sapphire is the domain of an older generation, today it has become a must-have accessory staple for the modern woman. This is in part due to the Duchess Catherine Middleton and the beautiful engagement ring Prince William proposed with. The ring was originally given to Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981, by Prince Charles when they got engaged. Upon her death, the ring was kept in the family until such a time as one of the princes got engaged.  The ring features 14 solitaire diamonds surrounding a 12-carat oval blue sapphire set in 18 carat white gold.

Sapphires have also become popular on red carpets and runways worldwide. From actresses, to models and singers, sapphires are fast becoming the ‘it’ jewel. Some of our recent favourite actresses have been spotted wearing Sapphires on the red carpet include Aussies, Naomi watts and Margot Robbie, who were snapped this year at the Academy Awards red carpet wearing beautiful drop earrings and a fabulous statement piece necklace. We also love actress Julie Bowen and model Lily Collins who both were photographed wearing gorgeous Sapphire tear drop earrings.
