If you’re a Sex and the City fan, you’ll remember the episode where Carrie’s Manolo Blahniks get stolen at a friend’s baby shower. The friend offers to reimburse her… until she finds out they cost $485, at which point she decides that’s an insane amount to spend on shoes and offers $200 instead. Carrie’s rightly annoyed. She has always showered this friend in gifts celebrating her engagement, wedding and her baby. As she puts it herself, “I’m thrilled to give you gifts to celebrate your life, I just think it stinks that single people are left out of it.”
It’s a conversation we’ve been having here at Shiels HQ lately. Our office is full of amazing, diverse women at varying stages of life – some married, some single, some full-time and building their careers, some part-time and raising families too. We all agree that there are many moments in a woman’s life that deserve to be celebrated.
The promotion she worked three years for. The home she bought on her own. The business she launched. The divorce that was finalised after a year of courage. The milestone birthday she almost didn’t want to acknowledge.
