If you like a piece that is a bit out of the ordinary and is a real staple of the times, then look no further than the G-Shock MTG Supermoon Year of the Rabbit watch by Casio. Resplendent in bold red highlights and cased in IP gold, there’s no doubt that this watch is dripping in the best new technology from G-Shock without sacrificing on toughness.

Overview:

Build

Straight away you’re in awe of the eye-catching gold metal that encases the watch case and bracelet. The gold ion-plated dial is complete with a 3D textured surface that resembles the recognisable craters of the moon which crawls onto the bezel. This feature has space fans rejoicing, and opens this timepiece up to a whole new market. The choice of gold paired with this design is unmatched and elevates the overall feel of the piece.

From lug-to-lug, the case measures approximately 51.9mm, which means that it is a bolder piece that will make a statement on the wrist, especially paired with its 50.9mm width. But don’t worry, the watch is still very wearable with only 12.1mm thickness - all thanks to new structural techniques used in the MTG series.

The piece keeps on giving with an intricately etched design that is placed subtly on the case back. The illustration is inspired by the ‘rabbit on the moon’ folklore, which is a mythical figure based on a pareidolic interpretation of the markings on the near side of the moon as a rabbit. The design has refined details that adds to the character of the timepiece, one of my favourite aspects of this watch.

Technology

The MT-G is one of G-Shock’s most premium watches so you can expect the best in toughness AND technology. Complete with Triple G resist which includes protection from shocks and impacts, centrifugal force and vibration, the dual-core guard structure ensures that this timepiece is as strong as they come. Along with this, there is a 200m water resistance, which has become a given for most G-Shock pieces now.

G-Shock has taken extra measures to ensure that this piece is as comfortable as possible. The bracelet is fitted with soft resin padding on the inside of the stainless steel strap, which is perfect for those who love the look of stainless steel, but prefer the feel of a softer material. While it features a layered look, the watch maintains a lightweight finish.

Along with structural features, the Supermoon G-Shock is packed with tech features like a Bluetooth mobile link with smartphone connection, along with all your favourite traditional functions like dual time, 1-second stopwatch, daily alarm and full auto calendar.

Even in low lighting, this watch has your back with a bright LED light-up dial. This timepiece is jam-packed with features in the traditionally loved rugged feel of a G-Shock - that also has detailed and unique aspects that make it easy to enjoy.
