Overview:

How To Set The Date On A Seiko GMT Watch

As a general rule of thumb for automatic watches, do not change the date when the time is showing between 9 PM and 3 AM as the date mechanisms are active during this time and can be damaged. To set the date on a Seiko GMT watch you must first pull the crown out into its first position. This will allow you to change the date by rotating the crown anticlockwise towards yourself. Make sure to set the date one day before the current date. For example, I’m writing this on the 5th so I would set my watch to the fourth. We will get the date set to the current date when we set the time in the next step.

How To Set The Time On A Seiko GMT Watch

To set the time on a Seiko GMT watch, pull the crown out into the second position and turn the crown clockwise away from yourself to turn the time forwards. Once you rotate the crown past 12 AM the date will tick over from the previous date to the current date. Set the time to your current time making sure to account for AM and PM time. Pull out your phone and watch the minute tick over, then press the crown in to make sure your watch is set as accurately as possible.

How To Set A Seiko GMT Hand

To set a Seiko GMT hand correctly, look up the current GMT time. Then pull out the crown into the first position and rotate the crown clockwise to turn the GMT hand in 1-hour intervals. As I’m writing this GMT time is 6 AM. The GMT hand works on a 24-hour clock, so I am going to set my hand to 6, if it was 6 PM I would set it to 18.

Alternatively, you can use the GMT hand to display any other time zone you would like to keep track of.

How To Set A Third Timezone On A Seiko GMT Watch

To set a third timezone on a Seiko GMT watch you must utilise the rotating bezel, I’m going to be using New Zealand time for my example. GMT time uses time codes that range from 0 to 12 in + or -, New Zealand is +12, so I am going to rotate my bezel anticlockwise until 12 indices from the bezel pass the 12 o’clock position. If the time code is negative, turn the bezel clockwise.
