Styles may come and go but the people’s love of diamonds will forever be timeless. Despite how quickly trends are fleeting, diamond jewellery will forever have a place in our hearts. Whether it is in the form of timeless diamond tennis bracelets, an engagement ring to mark the next step in your relationship or an elegant pair of diamond earrings that you will love and wear forever, we think you will all agree with our stance that the world goes gaga for diamonds. Despite their continuous popularity, however, traditionally mined diamonds still remain limited due to their skyrocketing prices. This has resulted in many shoppers looking into other ways that they can add a little sparkle to their look in a more affordable way, and one of the more affordable approaches is lab-grown diamonds

Beginning as nothing more than a tiny diamond seed that has been exposed to carbon-rich gases as well as intense heat and pressure, lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds that have been produced in a controlled laboratory setting rather than in the earth’s crust. Lab-grown diamonds are not mined and therefore are considered a more eco-friendly and budget-friendly option. In fact, the controlled environment that Lab-Grown diamonds are produced in means that you can pick up lab-grown jewellery for a slightly more inviting price tag.

So, are lab-grown diamonds popular? Read on and find out in our lab-grown diamond trend report

Lab-Grown Diamond Trend Report

Overview:

Are Lab-Grown Diamonds Popular?

More and more retailers are including lab-created diamonds in their range but are lab-grown diamonds popular?

The answer is yes! Not only are more and more brands cottoning onto this trend but in some parts of the world, they have almost surpassed traditionally mined diamonds as the most popular choice for diamond jewellery. With mined diamonds only becoming more scarce, it is estimated that the market for lab-grown diamonds grew to 20% in 2019. But while much of their popularity stems from the fact that they allow you to get more bang for your buck, it largely has to do with their sustainability. With people becoming more and more conscious about the items they choose to consume and their impact on the environment and as a result, lab-grown diamonds are the perfect compromise, particularly for young people. According to the money magazine Forbes, a recent study found that around 70% of millennials would consider purchasing lab-grown diamonds not only for their sustainability but also for their significantly lower price point.

Lab-grown diamonds are becoming so popular that not only are some brands forgoing mined diamonds altogether in favour of these slightly more affordable stones but they are even being endorsed by the world’s rich and famous.

Singer-songwriter Billie Eilish is known to stand up on issues that she feels strongly on. So when the Bad Guy singer teamed with Oscar De La Renta to create an enchanting peach-coloured princess gown for the 2021 MET Gala, she did so on her terms and only agreed to do so if the brand promised to stop using fur in their collections-which they did. A post shared by Bindi Irwin (@bindisueirwin)

When Australian sweetheart and wildlife warrior Bindi Irwin got engaged to her long-time partner, Evan Chandler, he proposed to her with a lab-grown diamond engagement ring. Consisting of a rose gold setting made from recycled metal, the oval engagement ring featured a large centre stone weighing around 2-carats and multiple smaller diamonds in a pave style intertwined in the band. The daughter of Steve Irwin who became engaged to the former American wakeboarder on her 21st birthday said that the ring was the “essence” of who she is with its vintage appeal and overall sustainability. Because while the Irwins are known to face off against crocs, they are also big champions of marine conservation and sustainability.
